Women’s football to welcome the state of the app on Sunday

CONWAY, South Carolina – The Coastal Carolina women’s soccer team is welcoming Sun Belt rival App State to a Sunday afternoon game at CCU Soccer Stadium. The game is scheduled to start at noon ET and is expected to air on ESPN +.

The Chanticleers are looking to end a four-game losing streak against the Mountaineers after losing 2-1 to Texas State in the dying second of first overtime on Thursday night. Junior Megan Brouse scored her first goal of the season in the 17th minute as she connected on a cross from compatriot Chanticleer Sarah allen to put the Chants 1-0. Allen tried to put the visitors in place but she fired 10 minutes later was saved.

Texas State tied the game at 1 just 11 minutes after the half-time break, as Bailey Peschel played a ball to his chest and was able to find the back of the net. 90 minutes was not enough and Coastal was heading into his third overtime game of the season.

With just a second to go in the first overtime period, the Bobcats’ Trinity Clark rebounded and found the back of the net for the golden goal.

SCOUTING THE ALPINE TREES

  • App State finished the 2020-2021 season 6-11-1 overall and 4-6-0 in Sun Belt play. The Mountaineers clinched a victory over then-number 5 ULM at the national level, 2-1, in double overtime.
  • The apps dismiss eight of the 11 starters from last season, including five of their eight top scorers. Additionally, Apps starter returns Kerry Eagleston between the posts while securing 19 total returns and 12 newcomers. Olivia Cohen returns for App State after finishing third overall and second among positional players. Cohen tied for first on the team with two goals and was third with four points. She led the team with 19 shooting attempts.
