Women’s football takes victory on seniors’ night
Tallmadge’s girls’ football team claimed a 9-0 victory on the senior night over a Firestone side who persevered with little help off the bench.
It was a well-balanced game for the first 15 minutes, but as soon as Farah Heestand found the back of the net for the Blue Devils’ first goal after 15 minutes with an assist from Claire Breiding, the score became consistent and evenly distributed between several of Tallmadge’s players.
Elena Blanchard scored the second goal thanks to an assist from Julia Onchak. Morgan Graham found the back of the net both in the fourth minute of the first half and on the first goal of the second half, assisted by Natalie Onchak on the second goal.
Katie Hudak closed the scoring in the first half with another assist from Breiding.
Breiding continued to score with an unassisted goal for herself followed by a goal from Julia Onchak. The last two goals were scored by Madigan Clum, assisted by Calina McBenttes, followed by a superb final from Ellie Hudak, who had left her standard goalkeeper position to play offense.
The Tallmadge boys’ football team defeated Kent Roosevelt 1-0 on Tuesday, September 28.
The Blue Devils took a 1-0 first-half lead thanks to a goal from senior Ben Hudak.
In front of goals, senior Jamysen Montgomery also recorded six saves for the Blue Devils (6-4-3, 1-2-1).
The Tallmadge boys’ golf team finished third in the Fourth Suburban League Conference Tournament on Thursday, September 30. The tournament was held at Good Park (par 71).
The Blue Devils had a team score of 343 behind Aurora (329) and Highland (34).
Individually for Tallmadge, Ty Kester led the way with an 82. He was followed by Caleb Fairhurst (83), Aaron Gergely (89), Josh Baez (89), Matt Heigelmann (93) and Drew Dalton (102).
The Blue Devils also finished the year in third place in the conference.
Fairhurst won first-team honors in all leagues. Kester won second-team honors, while Baez received an honorable mention.
In their Division I Sectional at Windmill Lakes (Par 70), Tallmadge finished in eighth place as a team (337).
Fairhurst led the way with a 76, qualifying for the district tournament in Pine Hills on Monday, October 11.
He was followed by Gergely (84), Kester (86), Baez (91) and Kasen Frisbee (91).
Tallmadge’s volleyball dominated Aurora 3-2 on Thursday, 3-2 (25-15, 22-25, 25-21, 21-25, 15-9).
Ellie Kirker led Tallmadge with 51 assists and three aces. Zoe Rensel had 21 kills. Maya Dexter has carried out 40 digs. Mia Hurst and Kendall Kirkland each added two blocks. Ella Bee had 14 points of service.
On Monday, Tallmadge lost 3-2 to Marlington 3-2 (25-18, 25-27, 25-12, 23-25, 12-15).
Bee had 12 service points for Tallmadge, while Lexi Gray had three aces. Dexter led the way with 33 recoveries while Kirker once again led the way with 40 assists. Kirkland managed 14 kills while Hurst managed four blocks.
On Tuesday, Tallmadge swept Cuyahoga Falls 3-0 (25-1, 25-12, 25-4).
Kirker had 21 serve points and 22 assists. Gray recorded five aces. Dexter had 12 digs, while Hurst led the attack with nine kills. Hurst recorded two blocks.
Tallmadge won another sweep on Wednesday against Kent Roosevelt (25-13, 25-16, 25-15).
Kirker paced the Blue Devils (14-5, 9-3) for assists (29), serve points (15), aces (two) and recoveries (13).
Rensel led the attack with 10 kills.
Hannah Eyre, Hurst and Kirkland each had a block.
