The Day – Local College Gathering: Coast Guard Men’s Football Team Goes Undefeated

Worcester, Mass. – John Flood scored in the 12th minute and the undefeated Coast Guard scored the goal in their 1-0 win over Clark in a men’s New England Men’s and Women’s Conference football game on Saturday .

Gabriel Gallant got the assist and Josh Hudson made five saves for the Bears (7-0-1, 2-0), who are ranked 14th in the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 Division III poll.

The Cougars are 5-3-1, 0-1-1.

In other games:

• Felix Wu and German Giammattei both scored for Amherst in his 2-0 win over Conn College in a New England Small College Athletic Conference game. Amherst is 5-1-0, 2-1-0. Sam Maidenberg made four saves for the Chamels (3-2, 2-1).

• Marek Gonda scored at 79:44 to give DePaul a 2-1 win over UConn in the Big East Conference. Nathaniel Enriquez scored for DePaul (5-2, 1-0) and Gandhi Cruz made five saves. Guillaume Vacter scored and Mateo Leveque got the assist for the Huskies (4-3, 0-2).

Women’s football

• Natalie Landau scored two goals for Amherst, beating unbeaten Conn College 4-0 in a NESCAC game. Carter Hollingsworth scored a goal and an assist for the Jumbos (5-1, 2-1). Sarah Hall made four saves and Ella Kahrl added three saves for the Chamels (3-1, 2-1).

• Maria Colon Figueroa scored the game-winning goal at 89:56 as Babson rallied for a 2-1 victory over the Coast Guard in a NEWMAC game. Morgan Krauss scored and Morgan Fedosiewich made three saves for Babson (4-3-1, 1-1), who was behind at halftime. Chase Merrick scored and Hope Drake-Duval made seven saves for the Bears (2-6, 0-2).

Women’s volleyball

• Amanda Dake had 20 kills, 13 digs and six aces for the Coast Guard in her 25-27, 25-17, 27-25, 25-18 against Wheaton in a NEWMAC game. Noelle Tursky had 46 assists and 13 digs for the Bears (8-4, 1-1) and Sophia Galdamez had 22 kills and 11 digs. Adara Hamilton collected 15 recoveries, 11 kills and three aces for the Lyonnais (7-2, 1-1).

• Lauren Carey had 29 assists and 14 digs as Conn College recovered from a two-goal deficit to beat Clark 22-25, 20-25, 28-26, 25-22, 15-13 . Julia Dailey had 24 digs and five aces for Conn (2-4, 1-4) and Katherine Randall had 10 digs, six aces and five kills.

Emma Wheeler had 11 assists and Carey had 19 assists and five aces as Conn College lost their second game of the day to Smith 24-26, 25-22, 25-21, 25-14. Dailey added 15 digs.

Field hockey

• Beth Williamson had two goals and an assist and Natalie Hobbs scored twice as undefeated Amherst beat Conn College, 7-2, in a NESCAC game. The Jumbos are 7-0, 4-0. Kylee Quinn and Hannah Webster scored, Bridget Mason got an assist and Jackie Mountford made seven saves for the Chamels (1-5, 0-4).
