The Day – Ledyard’s Under-15 men’s soccer team wins State Cup
Ledyard’s Under-15 boys’ football team won the State Cup this spring by beating a very talented team from Farmington, 2-1 in the Cup final. They got there by beating Weston 3-0, a forfeit victory over Southington, a 2-0 victory over Newtown in the semifinals, and then the Cup final victory at Farmington.
Although this victory came this spring, the journey began years ago when most of the boys were 5 or 6 years old. The majority of boys started together at U-9 in second grade. They have performed throughout the fall / winter / spring seasons together every year. They attended camps, summer workouts and conditioning programs, workouts were moved indoors due to bad weather. They lost heartbreaking Cup matches to U11, U12 and U13, but they never lost their confidence. Many players have been fortunate enough to be part of top clubs such as Southeast Soccer Club and two players have been part of the CT ODP squad for their age group. On June 19, they became champions. They embody what it means to be a team and have left an incredible legacy for future Ledyard teams to follow.
The team members are Evan Casola, Niko Cayangyang, Ben Crowe, Roan Fothergill, Sam Hopkins, Jack Keskeny (not pictured), Cameron Munger, Sean O’Brien, Anthony Santacroce, Finn Scully, Chase Spurley, Ben Syphrett , Paulo Templeton, James Tweed, Lucas Wanamaker, Cameron Weber and Eric Williams.
The coaches are Mike Munger, David Hopkins and Chris Acor.
