BUHLER — The Newton High School women’s soccer team had their chances, but it was Buhler’s Crusaders who finished, resulting in a 3-0 loss for the Railers on Monday night in a tied catch-up game to the weather at Buhler Stadium.

Newton was outplayed 13-9, 13-8 on target. Kaylee Parker stopped all 13 shots from Railer. Alexia Hernandez made nine saves in the Railers goal.

“In the second half we had possession of the ball all the time and they had about three breakaways and they scored,” Newton assistant coach Marco Valdivia said. “The first just killed us. We came back and played hard. We just couldn’t get him in. We have Ark City tomorrow. We must turn the page and prepare. Last year, Buhler beat us 9-0. This year it’s 3-0, which shows a lot of improvement. We just have to work.

Newton was outshot 4-2 in the first half, although possession was only around 55% to 45% in favor of Buhler.

The Crusaders scored in the 45and minute when Aubrey Tanksley hit in a rebound shot. Buhler scored again in the 53rd minute when Ashlynn Adcock took a cross pass and converted on a long looping shot to the top right corner. Buhler tidied things up in the 62n/a minute when Teigan Neilsen converted a cross pass from Tankersly.

Izzy Sandoval had Newton’s best scoring chance in 67and minute on a shot that hit the crossbar. Newton had a few late chances that Parker was able to turn away.
