Plaschko wins Big Ten goalie of the week

MINNEAPOLIS – Megan Plaschko was named Big Ten Co-Goalkeeper of the Week for her performances against Mississippi State and Wyoming last weekend, as announced by the conference bureau on Sept. 7.

“Megan has been a very constant presence for us since preseason”, head coach Erin chastain noted. “She played a variety of great games for our team this past weekend and last season and is constantly striving to be better every day. I am proud of her for earning this recognition and look forward to doing so. ‘she continues to bring that level of play through the rest of the season. “

The honor is the first weekly honor that a Gopher football student-athlete has won this season. For Plaschko, this is the second time in her career that she has won the weekly title after winning the program’s first goalie of the week award last season.

Plaschko was perfect for the Gophers last week, securing two shutouts to help the team remain undefeated at 3-0-2 this season. Plaschko made nine career-high saves in the draw against Mississippi State. The nine-save performance was the most saves a Gopher has made in a game since current volunteer goaltending coach Tarah Nupson (formerly Hobbs) made 16 saves against Iowa in the game. a 2-2 draw in 2013. Plaschko followed with another perfect performance against Wyoming, playing 65 minutes before coming out in the 4-0 victory.

It wasn’t just last week that Plaschko shone for Minnesota. The Eagan, Minn. Native has been perfect in five games this season, not allowing a single goal. She is the only Big Ten goaltender to have a perfect score this season. She also helped make the Gophers the second program in Big Ten history to post five consecutive shutouts to start any season (Rutgers – 2015, 2017).

Minnesota’s next test will be Thursday, September 9 on the road against the University of Nebraska – Omaha. The match is scheduled for 6 p.m. with the match being broadcast on
