Men’s soccer returns to action this week

RIVERDALE, NY – Football returns to Gaelic Park this fall as the Manhattan College men’s football team takes to the field for the 2022 campaign. The Jaspers host Holy Cross Thursday at 1 p.m. at Gaelic Park.

The two clubs met last year at Holy Cross, where the Crusaders escaped with a 3-2 victory in a back-and-forth.

Flanking Scott on the sidelines will be assistant coaches Andre Santos and Sean Reilly. Certified Assistant Coach Ornette Sanchez joins this year to complete the coaching staff.

Johan Velez returns to help lead the offensive attack after scoring five goals last year, making him second on the team. named Scott Dorian Bounab, Ronaldo Da Silvaand James Cotter as captains of the 2022 team.

Scott has brought many new faces to Riverdale this season, with new faces battling for lineup spots all over the field.

The following Sunday, the Greens and Whites travel to the nation’s capital for a game against George Washington at 1 p.m. It will be the first time these two clubs have faced each other since Sept. 10, 1995. The Jaspers will continue their non-conference schedule in another historic U.S. city, heading to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to meet La Salle on Friday, Sept. 2, under the lights at 7 p.m.

Another page in the historic rivalry between Manhattan and Fordham will be recorded on September 6 when the two teams face off at Fordham. Since 1993, the Rams have led the all-time series 15-8. The Greens and Whites have won the last three games (1-0 in 2018, 2-1 in OT in 2019, and 1-0 last season).

The Jaspers finally return to Gaelic Park on Friday, Sept. 9 against the Columbia Lions at 6 p.m.

The non-conference schedule concludes with a pair of games against Long Island (Sept. 14), which is coming off one of the best seasons in program history, and Fairleigh Dickinson (Sept. 21).

MAAC games open on the road against Rider on Wednesday, Sept. 28 at 7 p.m. Manhattan came away with a 2-0 victory last year against the Broncs. October begins with a road game in Siena on the first at 2 p.m. For the club’s first home conference game, Fairfield travels to Riverdale on Wednesday, Oct. 5 for a 6 p.m. puck drop.

Iona is the next club awaiting the Jaspers. Manhattan visits Iona on Saturday, October 8. The two clubs battled to a 1-1 draw in last year’s encounter.

The Jaspers return home for three home games, starting with a visit to new MAAC member school Mount St Mary’s on Wednesday, October 12. at 6:00 p.m. Last year’s MAAC regular season and tournament champion Marist comes to Gaelic Park on Saturday, October 15, for a 3:00 p.m. game. The home court ends Oct. 19 against Quinnipiac.

That Saturday, the Greens and Or travel to Western New York at the Canisius campus, where the Jaspers will look to extend their winning streak against the Golden Griffins to five, which dates back to the 2018 campaign. regular season ends with a pair of games against Saint Peter’s and Niagara.
