COLLEGE PARK, MD. – The University of Maryland women’s soccer team will host Penn State at Ludwig Field for their only game of the week. The match will be broadcast on B1G+. Kick-off is set for 1 p.m.

  • Marylands has an all-time record of 4-14-0 with Penn State. The two teams met at State College last season as the Nittany Lions won 5-1.
  • The Terps are looking for their first victory against the Nittany Lions since 2004.

Throwback to last week

  • Maryland fell in a home-and-away game to Wisconsin 2-1. Alina Stahl put the Terps on the board first with a goal in the 10th minute of the game.
  • The Terps dropped a game Sunday with Michigan State, 4-0.

B1g time matches

  • Maryland has faced some of the best teams in the country, facing four different ranked opponents this season.
  • The Terps have conceded just five goals in those four competitions, drawing No.17 Georgetown 1-1 and falling in one-goal games against No.24 Wake Forest, No.4 Rutgers and the No. 23 Wisconsin.
  • After dropping two contests last week, this week marks the first week of the season that Penn State is unranked. The Nittany Lions were ranked 6th in the nation.

New Terps have an impact

  • Amanda SchaeferChrista Waterman and City of Sydney all played important roles on the team’s defensive line.
  • Alina Stahl continues to lead Maryland’s offense with four goals and two assists this season. Stahl’s most recent goal came against #23 Wisconsin.
  • Seven of the 11 goals scored so far this season have come from Maryland newcomers.

a new era

  • Coach Meghan Ryan Nemzer continues her first season at the helm of Maryland’s women’s soccer program. Coach Nemzer comes to Maryland after spending the previous 14 seasons on the Rutgers coaching staff.
  • Katie Ely and Alex Ng will also join the Maryland staff this season. Ely spent the previous seven seasons on the University of Georgia, while Ng comes to Maryland after spending the past two seasons with the University of Richmond women’s soccer team.
  • Coach Nemzer also added Kenie Wright to staff with Justine Stoner. Wright will serve as director of player development, the first in program history, while Stoner will serve as director of operations.
  • Finally, Joe Nemzer rounds out the staff as the program’s volunteer assistant coach. Joe brings over a decade of football expertise with experience in the professional and college ranks.
  • Coach Nemzer and his team welcome 19 new Terps at College Park this season, including 9 freshmen and 10 transfers.
  • The New Staff recorded their first victory in Maryland on Sunday, September 4, with a 3-0 victory over George Mason.
