Marcos Ugarte and Webb Sarris hired to complete Chaka Daley’s Michigan football team

University of Michigan men’s soccer coach Chaka Daley has announced the end of his 2022 squad, hiring Marcos Ugarte as assistant coach and Webb Sarris as program assistant.

Ugarte is a former Michigan football player from 2013-2014 and spent one season as a volunteer assistant coach from 2017-2018. As a volunteer coach with the Wolverines, UM won the Big Regular Season Championship Ten 2017 and made an NCAA Second Round appearance.

Most recently, Ugarte has spent the last three seasons coaching and playing in the USL Championship with Birmingham Legion FC. He was a first-team player while also being an academy manager and head coach.

“We are thrilled to welcome Marcos back to Michigan and to our program,” Daley said. “He has always demonstrated the utmost integrity and that, combined with his work ethic and football IQ, has made him the ideal choice to help our student-athletes grow in the classroom and on the pitch.”

Following his college playing career, Ugarte spent six seasons playing professionally and signed his first contract in 2015 with Rochester New York FC (formerly known as Rochester Rhinos) in the USL Championship where he played two seasons and helped the team win the USL Cup in his rookie campaign. He also spent time with Ringkobing IF in Denmark’s Division 2.

With Ugarte, Daley hired Sarris as the team’s program assistant. Sarris has spent the past four seasons as a student manager and graduated from the University of Michigan’s School of Kinesiology with his bachelor’s degree in sports management.

“Webb was an incredible addition to our program during his time as a manager in his undergraduate career,” Daley said. “His professionalism, his connectivity with the group and the community added to his service make him not only an easy selection, but also the best choice as a program assistant.”

Sarris also spent time coaching with Liverpool FC International Academy Michigan and was a trainee with the Gotham Soccer League in New York.

He received the James B. Angell Scholar Award and was a three-time recipient of the University of Michigan Honor Award. He is currently working on his Masters in Management at the Stephen M. Ross School of Business and will graduate in May 2022.
