Mangione named Big Ten co-offensive player of the week



ROSEMONT, Illinois – Penn State Men’s Second Year Pierre Mangione was named the Big Ten Co-Offensive Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday afternoon. Mangione shares top honors with Michigan’s Kevin Buca.

Mangione netted a hat trick against Villanova at Jeffrey Field on September 21, the program’s first hat trick since Corey Hertzog in 2010.

The Hunt Valley, Md. Native recorded a career-high six points on those three goals and now holds a team-high 11 points with five goals and an assist. He is one goal behind his career best six established last season as a rookie.

The midfielder / striker’s five total goals are tied for first in the conference and rank 19th nationally, while his 11 total points also set the pace for the league and are 37th nationally. Three of his goals are winners, good for the first in the Big Ten and the third at the national level.

The honor is the second in Mangione’s career and the first for Penn State this season.

Mangione and the Nittany Lions return to the Big Ten Conference game on Friday, Oct. 1 at Michigan State in East Lansing, Michigan. Kick-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. and will be broadcast live on B1G +.
