Manchester City teams up with St Laurence’s College for football training program in Brisbane

A Brisbane school has struck a deal with Manchester City to nurture the next generation of footballing champions through a new football programme.

Manchester City of the English Premier League established the state’s only Manchester City football school at St Laurence’s College.

The football school will include training programs delivered by a Manchester City coach for students at St Laurence’s College, using the FIFA-certified artificial football pitch on the college’s South Brisbane campus.

St Laurence’s College Principal Chris Leadbetter told ABC Radio Brisbane the partnership had been in the works for some time and he had struggled not to break the good news to students.

“They will be implementing a curriculum from grades 5 to 7, it will be in the curriculum and also outside of school hours,” Mr Leadbetter said.

“Grades 8 to 12 will be a co-curricular program, so before and after school, in our fields at school or in our fields at Runcorn.

“So we’re very excited.”

Although participation in the program is only open to students of St Laurence College, aspiring footballers from other schools will have the opportunity to take part in school holiday clinics.

“We’re offering the program outside of school for next year and the year after, and there’s an information session at the college on September 7 to talk about the program,” Leadbetter said.

Football Education and Recreation for City Football Group chief executive Jorgina Busquets said it was a pleasure to bring Manchester City’s coaching philosophy and methodology to St Laurence’s College.

“As an organization we have a defined and innovative style when it comes to playing football and we ensure that fun and development are intertwined as part of the experience,” he said. she declared.
