Lady Toppers bounces back with OT Win at CRF

MIAMI – For the fourth time this season, WKU Soccer scored a golden goal in overtime to claim a 3-2 win at the CRF on Friday night. It was also the third overtime road win for the Lady Toppers in conference this season.

“We are extremely happy with the victory and the crucial three points on the road,” said the head coach Jason neidell. “With a two-goal lead early in the game we got a little too comfortable and it almost bit us. WKU joined the board early. Brina Michel scored in the seventh minute to give the Lady Toppers a 1-0 lead from the start. Avery jacobsen set up the game with a pass in the box that made it Lily rummo. Rummo found Micheels and Micheels sealed the deal for his third goal of the season.

The Lady Toppers scored again just over 20 minutes later. Jacobsen sent a long pass deep into CRF territory, finding Katie erwin who hit him in the net for his fourth goal of the season.

The overtime goal came in the 95th minute of Brooke Cuff. Erwin found Sleeva in the box and Sleeva sent a shot at the CRF goalkeeper. The ball bounced back and Sleeva finished it for the win. It was the rookie’s first career goal.

WKU dominated FIU 21-5 in the match, but the shots on goal were closer at 6-4. Goalkeeper Alexis bach made two saves in the evening, including a saving save in the 85th minute.

The Lady Toppers improve to 10-2 this season and 5-1 in conference. With 15 points in the league, WKU is one point behind the Old Dominion (9-3-1, 5-0-1 C-USA).

With the win, WKU goes 4-0 on the season in overtime games, the most overtime wins by a Lady Topper team in the program’s history.

WKU will have a quick turnaround time, hosting UTEP Sunday at Bowling Green at 1pm for Seniors Day. Avery jacobsen, Chelsea moore, Isidora Pekez, Sophie fondren and Mackenzie crittenberger will be celebrated during the ceremony following the match.
