Birmingham (Reuters) – Jamaican winger Leon Bailey captured the loyal hearts of Aston Villa on Saturday, scoring a 21-minute appearance, including his first goal since the Bayer Leverkusen jackpot.
Bailey, a £ 25million summer board, was presented as a replacement in the 61st minute and he brought the villa to life at his inspiring pace.
After Matty Cash opened the villa in the 66th minute and scored the first villa goal, Bailey’s corner kick beat Lucas Digne of Everton 2-0.
He then ran with his left foot in front of Asmil Begovic to crush the ball from the bob ring.
Bailey didn’t last that long, but said he was dragging on his tight thighs because of his powerful strike.
But for the 24-year-old Jamaica International, who made a name for themselves in Genk, Belgium, it didn’t spoil the day.
âIt made a lot of sense for me to get what I did in 21 minutes. My family was there and when I arrived the fans were chanting my name. It’s a great feeling. I feel welcomed as that villa player here, âBailey said.
âMy son is here. It is a big part of my life and has motivated me. My girlfriend is the backbone of me and my brother supports me. This was the case. I felt comfortable and had to do it for them and for the fans. “
His goal was astounding. After taking out a long ball and sprinting towards the goal, he lifted the drive and hit the ball into the net.
âAt that point, I said I was going to crush the ball. He was bouncing, I took a little time to relax and I focused on making sure I hit him well, âhe said.
âThe injury was from a shot. I hit too hard and my quads started to stiffen. I don’t think it was that bad, but I didn’t want to take the risk.
It was also a fun day for Cash, just behind the former Nottingham Forest, who said he dreamed of scoring ahead of Holtend the day before.
âI dreamed of scoring last night. I need to dream more. I scored in front of Holteend. A surreal moment. I’m really happy to play in front of these fans.
Forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison, and Everton manager Rafa Benitez, missing England national team Jordan Pickford, had to reflect on the end of his unbeaten start to the Premier League season. ..
âI think we started the game pretty well. There were a lot of situations at the counter in the first half and the final decision was not the right one, âsaid the Spaniards.
âWe made mistakes too early, too early, too close and difficult to deal with. We hope to be able to manage them in the future.
On the issue of Everton’s injury, Benitez said those absent would be missing for another week or two.
