EKU Soccer adds three players for 2021

RICHMOND, Ky. – Eastern Kentucky University soccer team added three players for fall 2021, head coach Matt Cosinuke announced Monday.

The three incoming colonels are Carly Dean, Ciana Miller and Myla Sharpless.

“We are delighted that our three new family members are joining us this fall,” said Cosinuke. “We needed more depth and competitiveness in some positions to continue to improve on last year’s growth. All three players have a champion mentality and are the leadership of the program. The future at Richmond is bright.”

Dean is a transfer goaltender from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. She appeared in five games last season as a rookie, including road games in Mississippi State and Alabama.

Dean played his last two years of football prep at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. Prior to that, she was a sophomore team captain at Sidney High School in Ohio. She was named the team’s defensive MVP and was an All-Greater Western Ohio Conference first-team selection.

Miller comes to EKU from Oakmont High School in Roseville, Calif., Just outside of Sacramento. She’s been a debutant at Oakmont since her freshman year, and she was the school’s MVP and an all-league first-team performer as a senior.

Miller plays club football for Placer United SC. She has started every game and played every minute of every game for the club for the past three years.

She chose EKU over Sam Houston State and UC Riverside.

Sharpless is a midfielder transferred from Florida Atlantic University. She appeared in 13 games at FAU, marking her first career start last season in sophomore at Old Dominion. She played a career-high 81 minutes in a double overtime draw against WKU last spring.

Prior to signing with the FAU, Sharpless was a three-star recruit from Freedom Area High School, just north of Pittsburgh, Pa. A team captain for four years, Sharpless has scored 60 career goals, recorded 47 career assists and helped lead Freedom Area to second place in the PIAA in 2018.

She was chosen to be a member of the US Youth Soccer Region 1 ODP team and won MVP honors at the 11e annual ODP tournament held in Costa Rica.
