DeLaGarza celebrates Revs U-19 MLS NEXT Cup title | “A good sign for the future”
Several players shone throughout the competition, highlighted by Jack Panayotouan 18-year-old Georgetown University draftee who has six goals in five games, including both goals in the 2-1 semi-final victory over FC Dallas and the only goal in Sunday’s decisive game against San Francisco . Malcolm Fry attracted a lot of attention with three goals and a penchant for beating defenders on the dribble, Isaiah Louis has shown an ability to score and create, and Triton Beauvois was the architect of the winner of Panayotou on Sunday with brilliant skill on the left side. Goalkeeper Max Weinstein played all but 45 minutes in the tournament and kept a clean sheet in the league game.
As a longtime centre-back now converted to an outside defender, DeLaGarza focused on the backline, heaping praise on the young centre-back. Jack Burkhardt.
“I was watching the game before our game and I was just watching the left centre-back, and just the way he carries the ball in midfield and passes and draws defenders in, he’s so calm and composed and that’s something, as a central defender you like to see our young kids grow up,” DeLaGarza said. “So a bright future all around the pitch, especially our attacking corps as well. Just a good sign for the future.
