Ohio State opens its 30th women’s soccer season with a two-game road trip against Kansas and Missouri. The Buckeyes will face Kansas on August 18, then play Missouri on August 21. Both matches will be streamed online. The Kansas game can be seen on ESPN+ and the Missouri game will be shown on SEC Network+.

  • The Buckeyes have an all-time record of 16-9-4 in season openers, but haven’t won their season opener since 2017.
  • Thursday’s game will be the first-ever meeting between Ohio State and Kansas. The Buckeyes are 2-3 all-time in five previous meetings with Missouri. The Tigers won the last meeting 3-1 at Columbus in 2019. They also won the only previous meeting at Columbia, 1-0 in 2011.
  • Ohio State head coach Lori Walker-Hock is in her 26th season at the helm of the program. She is 271-188-54 as head coach of the Buckeyes and has won two Big Ten titles in the regular season.
  • Walker-Hock returns to Lawrence, Kansas, and will coach his old team for the first time. She began her coaching career in Kansas, coaching the Jayhawks during the 1995 and 1996 seasons. She was the first coach in Kansas history.
  • Seniors Talani Barnett and Kayla Fischer along with second Sydney Jones have all been named the ten female football players to watch this fall. Barnett has played the most games of any player on the roster. Fischer is in the top 15 in program history in goals and assists. Jones was a member of the Big Ten freshman team last season and earned a spot on the United States U-20 National Team roster this summer.
  • Fischer has also been named to United Soccer’s list of forwards to watch this season.
  • The Buckeyes were picked by league head coaches to finish fifth in the Big Ten preseason poll.
  • Last season, Ohio State was 9-9-2 overall and made its 15th NCAA Tournament appearance.
