Blazers call on Clippers’ assistant Roy Rogers

The Portland Trail Blazers will add Los Angeles Clippers assistant coach Roy Rogers to their coaching staff, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. Rogers, who worked with new Blazers head coach Chauncey Billups as a Clippers staff member last season, is known for his defensive skills.

By Wojnarowski:

Portland is in the process of finalizing a deal for Clippers ‘assistant Roy Rogers to join Chauncey Billups’ new coaching staff, sources told ESPN. Rogers showed his ability to improve the team’s defenses in the last few stops and will focus on that end for the Blazers.

According to a article, Rogers was also instrumental in the development of the Ivaca Zubac center in Los Angeles:

Rogers helped develop the team’s crosses, most notably Zubac with his low footwork and edge finish.

Rogers has been an assistant and scout with the New Jersey / Brooklyn Nets, Boston Celtics, Washington Wizards, Houston Rockets and Chicago Bulls in addition to the Clippers. He joined the Los Angeles bench in 2020 under head coach Tyronn Lue, at the same time as Billups.

Earlier today, Wojnarowski announced that the Blazers will be hiring former Washington Wizards coach Scott Brooks as the Billups’ senior assistant.
