Arizona Basketball officially adds Jason Gardner to staff
With Arizona Basketball still in the midst of their busy offseason, Tommy Lloyd and the Wildcats have officially added Jason Gardner to the staff.
It’s been a whirlwind of events since Arizona Basketball fired Sean Miller and brought in Gonzaga’s longtime assistant Tommy Lloyd. From building their staff to building their roster, the work hasn’t stopped for Arizona, and their latest addition is former Wildcats legend Jason Gardner.
As you may recall, we previously said Jason would be joining the staff soon in some capacity, and finally, on Thursday it was announced that he would be officially returning to Tucson.
Make news via social media, Gardner to join Arizona staff as director of player relations.
Joining Wildcats legend Jason Terry, Jason Gardner is the second former Wildcat to join the Arizona Basketball coaching team.
For those who remember, Jason was a Wildcats legend from 1999 to 2003 and he was a part of some pretty fantastic Arizona teams back then. A four-time All-American honors winner in Tucson, Jason was also National Player of the Year in 2003, and is just one of six former Wildcats to have his number hanging on the rafters at McKale Center.
However, since then he has apparently found his niche in training, which coincidentally for us brought him back to Tucson.
As IUPUI head coach from 2014 to 2019, Jason only compiled a 64-93 record, even making the CIT tournament in 2019.
Unfortunately for him, his tenure as head coach was short-lived as Gardner struggled off the field and failed to post a winning season.
However, maybe a change of scenery will do the old Guardian Wildcat some good. Bringing in his experience and wealth of knowledge, Gardner will surely be a welcome addition by fans, and it further reinforces Lloyd’s intention to want to bring an Arizona touch to the staff.
