2001 Honored women’s soccer team

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – A year late, but a celebration was held for the 20th anniversary of WKU Women’s Football on Saturday, November 20 during the WKU football game against Florida Atlantic. The 2001 squad were honored as the WKU’s first women’s football team on the field in the first half.

The “Originals” consisted of 20 freshmen and two students from 10 different states and finished that inaugural season 14-5. The team included, Leslie Anderson, Erica Baker, Christi Banas, Marissa Barnett, Jeannine Bennett, Kathy Brannen, Crystal Chapon, Jenny Dalby, Andrea Doogs, Betsy Duncan, Kelly Frericks, Barbara Johnston, Jackie Krieger, Cera Long, Allison Nellis, Jocelyn Roach, Melissa Robinson, Kelly Tinius, Amy Uhlman, Lori Willard, Melissa Bailey and Jenny Klingenberg.

WKU Soccer’s 20th anniversary celebration was originally scheduled for the 2020 season, but with the season pushed back to spring 2021 and COVID-19 issues, the official celebration has not taken place.

The program recognized an All-20th Anniversary team throughout the spring of 2021 consisting of 20 members spanning the two decades. The following members were recognized in the team: Kristin Cocchiarella, Allison Nellis, Iris Dunn, Crystal Chapon, Amanda Buechel, Mallory Outerbridge, Sarah Gorham, Andrea Doogs, Ali Stahlke, Kellie Walker, Alicia Dalby, Hannah Chua, Nicole Roseland, Morgan Thomas, Jenna Silverberg, Rachel Friedman, Lindsey Passaglia, Katie Walker, Olivia Fitzgerald and Libby Stout. The Head Coach Jason neidell was the only coach in WKU Soccer history and during his time on the Hill he won over 200 games, won three conference titles and coached over 170 student-athletes to success on and off the pitch of football.
